During week one of the Accelerated Leadership Development Program of ROAR, we discussed the various "whys" in our lives. After serious consideration and reflection, I realized that the ultimate "why" in my life goes back to my love for other people.
Every activity I am involved in helps others in some way, shape, or form. My major, Nursing, is one clear example of that. I am looking forward to gaining the skills and knowledge I need to help others when they cannot help themselves. I decided to pursue higher education to learn everything I possibly can so that I can be the best version of myself. By doing this, I will be able to properly care for others in a professional setting.
I chose the University of Cincinnati as my school for a few reasons. The biggest one, actually, was my tour. My tour guide legitimately cared about the school, and I saw that clearly through their enthusiasm. What they were talking about were the other reasons I chose this school. I was worried about coming to an urban university, at first. I had always thought that I wanted to be somewhere smaller, but when I explored the campus it felt like the perfect size. Additionally, the abundant student life on campus drew me to UC. I loved that there were so many organizations to get involved in, many dealing with service. There were even several organizations devoted just to the College of Nursing, which is the final reason I came to UC. This nursing program stood out from the rest of the schools. The openness of the faculty, the simulation labs, and the focus on incorporating technology into education was fascinating to me. When I heard about this nursing program, I knew it was the right one for me.
I joined ROAR to share with others the love that I have for this school. Since my college tours aided greatly in my college decision, I wanted to be that person for high school students also trying to make that decision. By showing others the unique features UC has to offer, I am simultaneously helping the students and the school. I couldn't wait to give back to the school that has given me so many opportunities, so becoming a ROAR guide seemed like the perfect option.
