Gateway to University Honors
Gateway to University Honors is the class that is required for all freshmen in the honors program at the University of Cincinnati. This class took place the fall semester of my freshman year with Jason Autry as the instructor. In this course, my classmates and I explored various aspects of the honors program at UC with an emphasis on the experiential learning process, personal passions, and reflection. For experiential learning, we had several speakers address the different types of experiences you could have in the program: pre-approved, seminars, and self-designed projects. For practice with the self-designed experiences, we spent time going over the proposal process and designing one ourselves. In respect to personal passions and reflection, we spent several classes going over these topics. We discovered and developed what passions we had and what they meant to us in a reflective essay found here under the "Gateway to University Honors" tab. Finally, we discussed various methods of reflection and integrated it daily in each class for practice. Because of this class, I know how to incorporate my interests and passions into the experiences I will choose for the honors program. With the knowledge I have gained from this course, I will successfully be able to complete my five (or more) experiences with the ability to actively think through each experience and reflect on it afterwards.
